La Villita, San Antonio’s first neighborhood, which was originally a settlement for Spanish soldiers, was transformed late in the 19th century when Immigrants from France and Germany moved into the area, erecting Victorian houses and other interesting architecture. It is now a unique art community, full of quaint charm and beauty. Campers from Stone Creek RV Park can browse through the array of shops and galleries housed in buildings that are over 100 years old, containing merchandise such as hand-woven rugs and tapestries, as well as handmade pottery and gorgeous stained glass items in a kaleidoscope of colors.
Visitors can choose from four delightful eateries in the area. Simple elegance aptly describes the Fig Tree Restaurant, where you can dine on the patio close to the River Walk, enjoying such dishes as Chateaubriand. La Villita Café offers sandwiches and salads, along with Blue Bell Ice Cream, snacks and fresh roasted coffee. The two other selections include the Guadalajara Grill and Little Rheim Steak House.
