The coming days are a great time to vacation at Stone Creek RV Park, as San Antonio will be hosting several events in honor of our country’s birthday. Begin your July 4th celebration on June 30th with Danny O’Flaherty’s Spirit of Freedom Concert. Make your way to the Josephine Theater, where you can enjoy an evening of folk music and patriotic songs. In addition to the music, Flaherty will share with the audience important events that made a difference in our nation’s struggle for independence. The performance of this talented musician will fill your hearts with the spirit of the 4th.

Also on June 30th, an alternative entertainment is “Salute to America” at Wonderland of the Americas in San Antonio. This free concert will involve music from the San Antonio Symphony Band, as well as the Primetime Jazz Orchestra and Kings 1. Included in the event will be traditional July 4th food like hot dogs, ice cream and funnel cakes.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch

A trip to the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is a must if you’ve ever wanted to go on a safari, but a visit to Africa was too great a distance to travel. This 400-acre ranch is almost right in the backyard of Stone Creek RV Park, being on the northern edge of San Antonio. You can drive your car through this beautiful hill country ranch where over 500 animals of more than 50 species roam freely. The inhabitants of the ranch include zebras, giraffes and llamas, along with fallow deer, ostriches and gazelles.

Bring some animal food with you because many of the creatures are so tame they will come near the car for a handout. Also, bring your camera, as it is easy to get close-up pictures. A wonderful attraction, it is educational and entertaining for the whole family.

Retama Park Racetrack

The Retama Park Racetrack is Selma is only a few miles from Stone Creek RV Park, so it is a convenient distance for a family outing. Exciting quarter horse races are scheduled for the summer months, while thoroughbred races are on the agenda for the fall.

Every Friday night between June 15th and August 11th is a fifty cent night, which means you can purchase a program, soda or snow cone for a mere fifty cents. Bring the children because free kids activities are provided, such as pony rides, a petting zoo and face painting, along with a caricature artist and clown.

Concession stands are scattered throughout the park, where you can grab a hot dog or sandwich. However, if you would prefer to relax with a nice meal, head up to the Turf and Field Dining Room on the top level, where you can enjoy fine cuisine in an elegant setting.

Texas Folklife Festival

Have you ever wondered why Texans are so fiercely proud of their state? You can get some idea at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio on June 8th to 10th. It will be worth the short drive from Stone Creek RV Park to attend this event that celebrates the people, culture and customs of this great state.

Texas is a melting pot of 40 different cultures, some of which will be showcased through food, music and dance, as well as demonstrators and artisans. Explore the state’s unique cultural diversity through sampling some of the 150 menu items and browsing through the arts and crafts area. Possible examples of stage entertainment will be hot Latin groups from the Hispanic area, a Cajun band from Port Arthur and German folk dancers from the south central part of the state.
